“If you absolutely, positively need to be able to wheelie at any time, this would be the bike for you.” That’s how Loz Blain described the incredible Super Duke R in a New Atlas review when KTM released it in 2014. KTM had a much quicker description – they just called it “The Beast.”
For 2016, KTM released an all new ‘Special Edition’ model of the 1290 Super Duke, which was jam-packed with not only PowerParts farkles, but higher-end performance components as well. The 1290 Special Edition featured floating 320mm wave rotors, fully adjustable levers, and even engine protection that consisted of a mix of carbon and Kevlar materials. In conjunction with Akrapovič, KTM designed a more performance-based slip-on exhaust that allowed for a higher flow rate. The need for ultimate performance wasn’t satisfied yet, as KTM decided to mill smaller finishing touches out of lighter alloys as well, such as the covers of the clutch, rear brake, and front brake reservoirs. To really set the Super Duke Special Edition apart from the base model, this 1290 came with a special white livery which included exclusive graphics, along with a ‘Galvano Orange’ paint job to match.

The seller reports that he had the bike “serviced every year in preparation for the season.”
