When Honda first introduced the Grom 125 (MSX125 for those of you outside of the U.S.) back in 2014, the little bike made quite the splash. Some eagerly welcomed it, excited that the historically-practical moto manufacturer was finally ready to have some fun. Others scratched their heads, bewildered as to why Honda would cater to such a seemingly ‘peculiar’ niche.

Even in spite of its initial controversy, the Grom has firmly established itself within the motorcycle community. Between the compact size, the high-revving 125cc engine, and the flickable geometry, it’s a bike that has commanded quite the cult following.

Road & Track put it perfectly in their initial review: “The Grom is tiny, gutless, slow, and perfect. It’s the kind of motorcycle that probably made you enjoy riding in the first place… Invariably, it’ll make you enjoy riding again.” As with other small Hondas (like the Ruckus), one of the hallmarks of the Grom lies in its customization potential. So, while the platform is pretty humble out of the box, there’s a thriving aftermarket chock full of performance parts.

Iconic bought this to use at our Rhode Island location as part of Iconic East for our members to use during events or when renting the facility. We sent our fleet of Groms to our headquarters in Santa Monica for the winter and now that we’re changing up what Iconic East will be we decided to sell one of the Groms to clear up some space so it’s being sold with no reserve!

Maintenance:
As the bike has only 161 miles on it, Iconic has not performed any service.

Catching up on yesterday’s post…. Abhi & Cory are managing the hangar departure while I’m managing the build out / remodel and move in of our new building. Another 15 hour day yesterday and I’ll admit… I am ONE SORE guy!

I’m heading into the hangar now to get started at 7AM. The metal recycling company wants us to cut apart the last two ocean containers before they accept it. This is gonna be a a brutal Sunday!

Anyway, most of these bikes are destined for iconicmotorbikeauctions.com including my former 848 Corse that only saw one track day at COTA.

I especially like that racebike. Our dear friend Naomi @miyabeeplus had it as a family track bike…she’s a huge SpongeBob fan so that makes me smile.

Ok….off to the hangar. Almost done with this crazy move and concurrent build out @pinaprops , creating a mezzanine for our prop house (finished that last night too).

By 1992, when Pierre Terblanche gave the 851 a facelift, Ducati had firmly established a line of SP (Sport Production) homologation specials based on the line. The Italian firm debuted the SP5 for 1993, however they were not able to get it to pass US Department of Transportation regulations, so they created the SPO (Sport Production Omologato) for Americans that year.

The 888 produced 94 horsepower thanks to the iconic desmo valve V-Twin. Slight improvements contributed to a quarter mile time of 10.81 seconds on the way to a top speed of 157 miles per hour.

The SPO blended the Strada engine with several upgrades from the SP5, such as the single seat, upswept exhaust, and Ohlins shock with ride height adjustment.

Ducati backed it up on the track, winning the 1993 World Superbike Manufacturer’s Championship. Doug Polen would also win the AMA Superbike Championship that year on a Ducati as well.

The seller states “I bought it from the second owner in Monterey CA.” The odometer shows 35,283 miles. The seller states “I had it mostly on display.”

Hitting Iconic's auction site third today: a Factory Yamaha R6 Jamie Hacking commandeered during his championship winning 2003 AMA Supersport campaign! It's available for bid now on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Today we have a piece of race history – the Factory Yamaha Racing 2003 R6 bike from the AMA 600 Supersport class. This is the actual race bike belonging to Jamie “The Hacker” Hacking from his legendary 2003 championship season. Hacking is a British born, three time AMA champion, who began his career in 1997 with Kinkos Kawasaki. In 1998 he moved to a full factory Yamaha ride and subsequently won AMA Superbike rookie of the year despite being injured for part of the season. In 2003 he won his first AMA Supersport championship and this was his B bike, some of those podiums were on this very machine.

Jamie Hacking’s 2003 year was a standout season and one of the best of his racing career. After his contracted ended with Suzuki, he went back to Yamaha for the AMA Supersport Championship. By the end of the season, he had established himself as one of the top riders in AMA Supersport.

The bike came from Factory Yamaha and Jamie says, “This bike was my B bike I raced through out the 2003 Honda Pro Oils AMA Supersport class in 2003. This is the actual bike that I raced the day of winning my first ever AMA Championship at Barber Motorsports park in Birmingham Virginia. The bike is as is I rode it that day from down to the tires to the #1 decals that got stuck on as we where at the podium by my team over the #2 that I normally ran.”

Jamie notes, “Bike has been professionally dry stored by Yamaha.”

2018 was a momentous year in Ducati’s history – after years of producing V-Twin superbikes, the Italian marque released an all-new lineup centered around a 1,103cc V4. The base model was impressive in its own right, but an additional six grand bought you the “S” model, which came with impressive upgrades.

To celebrate a successful 2023 in both MotoGP and WSBK, Ducati realeased five replicas the following year: Bagnaia, Martin, Bautista, Bulega, and Bezzechi. Each bike was adorned with identical liveries and shipped with an authenticity certificate, an assortment of dedicated technical equipment, and a packing case. Aside from a multitude of carbon fiber parts, the upgrades included a STM-EVO SBK 9-disc dry clutch, an Akrapovič silencer (an addition that shaved off over four pounds), Brembo Stylema R calipers, Rizoma billet aluminium adjustable footpegs, and racing plexiglass.

Bezzechi’s replica celebrates his third place finish for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team. Adorned in black and yellow, the replica was limited to 72 examples and features the Italian rider’s signature on the tank.

The seller purchased the bike new from AMS Ducati Dallas and states, “As a Ducati top client, I get access to order new releases prior to Ducati offering them to the public. This is one of six I ordered and was approved to buy. All of mine are serial 026 of their respective series. This Bez is 026/72 and is the lowest replica made with only 72 being produced.” It is number 26 of 72. The odometer shows 0 miles.

The Yamaha TZR250 was manufactured and sold from 1986 until 1995 in three main iterations exclusively for the Japanese market, never being officially sold in the United States. Born out of the RD250, the model evolved from the more modest parallel twin 250 two stroke of the 2MA and 3MA variants to the 90-degree v-twin 3XV version.

In the early 90’s the Japanese manufacturers were in an arms race to create the most advanced 250cc repli-racers for license limited riders and track racers alike. These small quarter liter bikes were very different from the budget small cc bikes produced today to meet the needs of restricted license holders, they were brimming with the latest race bred technology and excellent build quality. While restricted to 45 HP to meet the Japanese rules of the time, de-restriction and tuning could release a lot more power.

Yamaha also produced a limited run of SP (Sports Production) models which featured a dry clutch, adjustable suspension front/rear, and several improvements to allow for even more power when de-restricted: cylinders, heads, electrics, and exhaust. Production was limited to 500 units a year and it was the model to get.

Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us perform a safety inspection, clean and sync the carbs, oil and filter change, hydro fluid flush and fill, transmission oil change, clean and lube the chain, inspect air filter, replace spark plugs, repair brake light, and we performed a gas tank cleaning with GTL. The last of its kind, Voxan was a French motorcycle manufacturer that staunchly clung to the phrase “made domestically” through all adversity and roadblocks. Just before the turn of the century, France implemented strict tuning laws that still stand even to this day; motorcycles must not produce more than 100 horsepower, regardless of engine size or any other performance features.

The Voxan offered for auction today is more unique than any motorcycle the French manufacturer, a prototype motorcycle built off the original Voxan designs but with improvements in many departments. We’ll defer to the seller for a description of this motorcycle: “The frame was built by Charles Laurent, one of the best metal-workers in the world. The engine made by SODEMO is a 1000cc DOHC 8 titanium valves, billet crankshaft, forged pistons, Pankle rods 4 injectors that will be abandoned for the production bike because it was too expensive. There are still 3 engines in the world and this one is the only one that is still running. This bike is the first prototype ever produced by the VOXAN company, and was introduce at the Paris motorcycle show in 1997.”

This example is VIN: 001. The seller purchased this Voxan from the original builder. The odometer shows 1 kilometer (0.6 miles).

When Ducati introduced the 999 back in 2003, there was no shortage of controversy over its styling; however, the performance was beyond reproach. The L-twin motor offered plenty of grunt even at low rpms, and its linear power delivery made it a thrilling ride at all speeds. Moreover, because of its up-spec suspension and stiff trellis chassis, it showed itself to be one of the finest handling motorcycles of its time.

No stranger to dressing up its street bikes in World Superbike garb, Ducati put out special editions left, right and center. Of particular note was the 999R FILA, a model created to celebrate the Italian firm’s 200th win in WSBK. Accordingly, just 200 examples were released — 75 were supposed to make their way stateside, but it’s possible that just 67 were initially imported.

The 999R FILA got a 10 horsepower bump over the standard bike, bringing the L-twin’s output up to a total of 146. The special paint was slathered on carbon fiber side and upper fairings, along with magnesium head covers and headlight support, WSBK inspired braced swing arm and forged aluminum wheels.

The seller states “I purchased it from the original owner in 2018 in Montana." The odometer shows 4,640 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller states he has completed “Oil change, fluid change. Runs perfectly. No issues.”

After spending nearly two decades honing its sportbike formula with the R1100RS and the HP2, BMW finally materialized its progress in the form of the S1000RR. It was a release that turned the race replica segment on its head, proving once and for all that the Germans could beat the Japanese at their own game.

When it launched in 2009, the “RR” introduced a number of firsts to the production motorcycle market. Since that time, BMW has only continued to improve on its original effort, refining the concept with slippery aero, a strengthened frame, some reworked suspension, and a set of stronger brakes. With the ultra-exclusive HP4 version of the S1000RR, BMW even added a ride-by-wire steering system — an innovation that had previously only appeared on track bikes.

The seller is the original owner and purchased the bike new from from Cross Country Cycle in Metuchen, New Jersey, and states, “I fell in love with the design and technology on this bike when it was announced and put down a deposit immediately. I put the break in mileage on it within the first month and then found out that the full power of the bike is much more than I want or need on the street and I ended up not riding it as much as I thought I would.” The odometer shows 2,030 miles.

Per the seller, “I have done regular maintenance and all recalls with Cross Country BMW. I have records for most of the services."

Iconic's first auction to wrap up Saturday's a stock example of Honda’s infamous six cylinder, the CBX! This one's from 1981 and it's available for bid until 10AM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

The CBX wasn’t the first production six-cylinder bike (that honor belongs to the Benelli Sei), but it quickly became the standard as a naked superbike with an intoxicating soundtrack. The model debuted in 1979 a decade after Honda forever changed the motorcycling world with the CB750, and the CBX promised another revolution. Honda had also developed a four cylinder 1000cc engine that produced nearly as much power for the CBX but thankfully went ahead with the six cylinder version gifting the motorcycle world another gem of Honda engineering.

It was big and brutal – the engine alone weighed 233 pounds, while the whole package was just under 600 pounds wet. For the last two years of production (1981 and 1982) Honda decided the CBX had a better chance of success in the market as a sport-tourer. The motor was detuned but everything else got beefier – the frame was strengthened to support the installation of a fairing and hard luggage. To cope with the extra weight Honda also added bigger dual front brake discs, 39mm air forks, and a Pro-Link monoshock.

The seller purchased the bike two years ago from a private party out of Florida and states, “I love Honda CBX’s, I collect them but this is one of them that has to go because I’m moving.” During his ownership the seller has covered approximately five miles. The odometer shows 11,109 miles.

Per the seller, “Every service has been done. The valve adjusted, carburetor’s rebuilt, gas tank flushed, currently has race fuel to preserve the carburetors.”

According to the seller the bike is stock and includes two ignition keys and two accessory keys.
