Description
Click here for an VINData Motorcycle History Report on this 1988 Suzuki GSX-R750.
Suzuki pulled the cover off the first-year GSX-R750 at the 1984 Cologne Motor Show, before its official launch in March of 1985. Upon its release, the Gixxer was unquestionably king, setting a new benchmark in the industry.
Suzuki revamped just about everything for the 1988 debut of the second generation. The aerodynamics were improved (11% less drag), the wheelbase was shortest in class (140cm), and the alloy frame was stronger (60% more rigidity). There were several other upgrades (such as a new short-stroke 748cc engine), but one specific change would end up becoming a nickname for the entire generation – the “slingshot” Mikuni BST36SS carbs.
Basic specifications were 112 horsepower, 55 lb-ft of torque, and a dry weight of 430 pounds. New for ’88 were 17″ wheels, while braking duties were handled by 320mm dual hydraulic discs up front and a 220mm hydraulic disc in the rear.
Manufactured February 1988, this example is VIN: JS1GR77A3J2102789.
The odometer shows 14,629 miles.
Maintenance:
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us clean and sync the carbs, replace the spark plugs, and flush, fill, and bleed the hydraulic fluid. We also cleaned the air filter, installed a new horn, and cleaned, lubed, and adjusted the drive chain. Finally, we installed fresh rubber on the bike.
