The “Tiger” name has been quite a popular one for Triumph, dating all the way back to the 30s. We know it now as an adventure bike that goes back to 1993, but back in the 1970s the British firm bestowed the jungle cat nomenclature on the TR6.

The Bonneville offered Triumph’s highest performance level out of a 650 and the Tiger was quite similar – the main difference being the use of one carb instead of two.

In 1971, Triumph shook things up with their oil-in-frame design for the Bonneville as well as the more approachable Tiger. The new design was initially quite tall with a seat height of 34″, so in 1972 Triumph modified the frame and the seat to lower that number by a couple of inches. That year, buyers could also order a five-speed transmission to pair with the ~42 horsepower air-cooled twin.

Our friends at the Gilmore Car Museum are changing up their collection and offering some motorcycles here on Iconic Motorbikes with no reserve. All proceeds of the auction sales on their end will go towards construction and rehabilitation of their museum. Go check them out if you’re in the area (Hickory Corner, Michigan) as through April 2026 they have an exhibit that honors the centennial anniversary of the Chrysler brand and one of the features is a 2003 Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle, a concept bike noted for its use of a Dodge Viper V10 engine!
This example is VIN: TR6RAG46384. It was donated to the museum in 2020.

During their ownership, the museum has put 1 mile on it. The odometer shows 22,058 miles.
