After Edward Turner’s Speed Twin design debuted in 1938, Triumph followed it up with another 500cc parallel twin in 1939: the Tiger 100. It was offered in a variety of trims over the course of its production life, including the A, the SS, the C the R, and eventually the Daytona. The C was the raciest of the lot, designed for off-road enduro competition.
1967 brought big changes to the Tiger, including a lighter and stronger frame, stiffer forks, and a skid plate.
For its powerplant, the T100C used a 490cc air-cooled four stroke overhead valve parallel twin that made 41hp. When coupled with a 4 speed transmission, it was good a claimed top speed of 105mph. Braking duties were handled by a pair of drums fore and aft, providing plenty of stopping power for the bike’s mere 371-pound heft.
Though the Tiger’s smaller displacement made it an appealing prospect to beginners, it was equally popular with racers because of its low weight, nimble handling, and responsive power delivery. Moreover, the AMA limited overhead valve motors to 500cc until 1969; put another way, the Tiger fit the bill perfectly.
Manufactured in December of 1969, this example is VIN: 827367. This is one of over thirty motorcycles that we have been auctioning off from the Alan Wilzig collection. Alan has had this on display for years and has not ridden it at all.
The odometer shows 252 miles. However, true mileage is unknown.
