The CB400F wasn’t as fast as its competition, but it was smoother, quieter, and more efficient. It also had some of the most beautiful production exhaust headers ever built, which are known by some as the “waterfall pipes” and are so iconic that Honda brought them back for the new CB650F!
Featuring a relatively rare-for-the-time six-speed transmission, the CB400F was styled somewhat like a cafe racer and had an engine that produced 37 horsepower. Weighing just over 400 pounds, a rider could knock off the quarter mile in about 14.1 seconds. It’s a basic, classic bike that would be just fine serving as a lovely daily rider. For more information, check out this story on Motorcyclist where they call it “the first real sportbike”.
This example is VIN: CB400F2002063, Engine #: CB400FE-2002003. The seller is the third owner: “this 1976 Honda CB400F was purchased by the original owner who lived in Idaho. He owned the bike for the majority of its life. It was then purchased by his neighbor who owned the bike from 2011 to 2021.” The seller acquired it three months ago.
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 250 miles. The odometer shows 7,218 miles, however the seller states that true mileage is unknown.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes a “very small mark on the tank where it’s held by its mount under the seat and rust under the fenders.”
The seller notes that the second owner “powder coated the frame and repainted the gas tank.”
“Under my ownership I cleaned and polished the front forks, added new grips and new mirrors, changed the oil to Amsoil, with a new air filter and new oil filter. I also added a new seat cover and rebuilt the carburetors.”
Currently located in Syracuse, Utah, this Honda is offered on a clean Utah title.
