Bimota fans will know that KB2 translates to the second model that Bimota designed around a Kawasaki power plant – the KB2 Laser utilized the mid-sized engine from the Z500 and was designed with a focus on low weight and excellent handling instead of monstrous power. Dry weight was claimed to be 410 pounds, some 60 pounds lighter than the Kawasaki. It was reportedly Massimo Tamburini’s favorite Bimota.
It was the last Bimota design that was available both as a kit or a complete bike, and just 177 examples were built. Such exclusivity got you top-notch components like Ceriani/Italia forks, a DeCarbon shock, and a set of Campagnolo 16″ magnesium wheels.
With the KB2 Laser S, Bimota upgraded the engine to that of a Z550. A mere 50 bikes and 22 kits were produced, making them quite a rare sight.
This example is VIN: KB200028, Engine #: KZ550DE006045. The seller acquired the bike from a private party in California in 2023. He is the fourth owner. He reports that it was “imported from Germany around 2013.”
