2026-05-27 10:50:00 2026-05-27 11:00:00 America/Los_Angeles 1985 Yamaha RZ350 Lithonia, Georgia - One of the last street legal two strokes sold in America, this one is freshly restored and ready to go! https://iconicmotorbikeauctions.com/auction/1985-yamaha-rz350-8/ Iconic Motorbike Auctions concierge@iconicmotorbikes.com

Please note: Per the seller, “The fuel tank, cooling system and injection pump reservoir have not had fluids since restoration. I fired the engine up on a gravity feed bottle of TruFuel 50:1.”

Only sold in the states from 84-85, the RZ350 was the first bike in the US to come equipped with catalytic converters and the first Yamaha street bike in the US to use a perimeter frame. It was also one of the last street-legal two-strokes available in this country.

Estimated production of these bikes was around 20,000. Accidents and time have worn down that number significantly. You’ll note the YPVS acronym on the engine: that stands for Yamaha Power Valve System, a computer-controlled valve that could adjust exhaust port timing. This enabled increased torque at low RPMs while maintaining horsepower higher up in the rev band.

This example is VIN: JYA48H009FA011330. The frame has been powder coated making the VIN difficult to read. The seller “bought the bike from a friend of a friend at the Barber motorsports back in 2010 or 2011.”

During their ownership, the seller has covered about 1,000 miles. The odometer shows 7,260 miles.

Maintenance:
This motorcycle has had a complete top to bottom, frame off restoration. The engine has zero miles on it, frame has been powdercoated, all the bodywork has been redone. It would literally be easier to list what hasn’t been done. I kept the OEM Yamaha parts bags for the parts I replaced.

Mechanical Issues:
To the best of my knowledge the motorcycle is mechanically perfect. That said, it has not been ridden since the full rebuild. because it is way too nice for me. I am terrified of riding it. Damaging what is very nearly perfect. I vacuum tested the cooling system and it holds, but the bike has not had any fluids, except brake fluid and shock/fork oil. Neither the fuel tank, cooling system or injection pump reservoir have had fluids since restoration. I fired the engine up on a gravity-feed bottle of TruFuel 50:1, video provided.

As it sits, the motorcycle doesn’t have the turn signals or horns installed, the wiring is all there and the turn signals along with all the other parts I have are included with the sale.

Modifications:

The seller states: “It would take a proper RZ expert to see most of the changes and upgrades I have made. 90% of people will see the original Toomey expansion chambers and think thats it. In reality, while the Toomey exhaust is the only obvious departure from stock, nearly the entire suspension has been replaced. The front forks are a combination of FJ and FZ-600 parts, with Race Tech cartridge emulators installed. The lower triple clamp is from a Yamaha FJ-600 and the top clamp came from a Yamaha XJ-650. Front fender is FJ-600.

From the pictures, maybe a really keen eye will notice that the front fender ain’t quite right, or the aluminum swingarm. The later model footpegs from 1986 and on. The point is that you really don’t see that stuff… but you feel it.

I built what I think is the best, nicest, stock appearing RZ that I could. It is not a project aside from needing to add fluids and tune it. It’s a two-stroke, it will need tuning. I have a ton of parts that are included with the sale. There are main and pilot jets, needles, slides, there are several sets of cylinders, one or two factory heads, some pistons and ring sets.

I have all of the original running gear, the catalyst equipped stock pipes, an uncut rear fender, unmolested airbox w/resonator snorkle intact, along with spares upon spares. Enough to keep this motorcycle running indefinitely. To ride and enjoy as it sits now: a little bit better than stock, or it could be YOUR project to put back to showroom condition. The lucky buyer will possess the necessary parts.”

“The swing arm is a Yamaha FZ-600 unit, with a late-model Yamaha R6 shock. Front and rear wheels are Yamaha FJ-600. Front brakes are FJ-600. The 600cc class running gear is a drastic improvement from the 350cc running gear: fork tubes are larger, axles are larger, brakes are better.”

The engine is a mild hot rod. The cylinders are on the factory bore with a Spec II, or comparable port match and clean up. It has Wiseco pistons with an O-ringed and squish-corrected cylinder head. Boyeson reeds and worked on Mikuni TM’s. The airbox has a drilled lid and the resonator removed.

Inside of the tank:

It is riding on Avon RoadRider tires with date codes of 2211 and 2511.

The sale includes 1 ignition key.

Cosmetic Blemishes: The seller states that there are no blemishes. Please see the album in the “Photos” tab for more detail.
