Introduced in 1986, the Yamaha YSR80 is a much rarer big brother to the YSR50, a popular miniature motorcycle that can surprise knowledgeable motorcyclists when they discover the bikes can be plated and legally run on the street. The 80 was never officially sold in America, making it hard to find here in the US.
The 79cc two-stroke motor was good for approximately 8-9 horsepower, and it was paired with a 5-speed transmission, front disc/rear drum brake, and styling that truly made it feel like part of Yamaha’s sportbike family. The 1986 model was offered in two color schemes: red/white and blue/yellow.
This YSR80 (VIN: 2GX-000600) was originally sold in Japan and is the 600th example built.
The odometer shows 5,928 kilometers (3,683 miles).
This is a JDM model that was imported from Japan and “is very close to original condition. The only non-original parts on this bike would be the Lockhart Phillips Speedscreen, the JDM-style foam tank pad (which is a very close match to the original), and the tires.”
Per the seller, “this bike runs, rides & looks great. The entire bike was just steam cleaned, completely gone through, properly tuned. and is 100% ready to go.” He notes the following recent maintenance:
New JDM-style foam tank pad.
Rebuilt forks with new fork boots, new tires front and rear.
New battery, new spark plug, rear motor mount, rebuilt carb, fresh oil and fluids.
“The horn, blinkers, lights, and controls all work as they should. The windscreen is aftermarket but is in perfect shape. The fairings are all original and show fairly well for their age.”
