Description
The GSX-R400 was originally launched in Japan in 1984 with the GK71 model, featuring a liquid-cooled inline four cylinder engine with DOHC, four valves per cylinder and close to 60 hp. Lighter than its rivals (under 350 lbs wet), the aluminum framed Suzuki became a hit with its excellent handling, more-than-adequate brakes, and a race-derived heritage.
Fierce competition in the 400cc category amongst the Japanese manufactures was fueled by the restrictive riders licensing rules in Japan that favored smaller displacement bikes and the TT-F3 racing class that spurred continual development of the models from the big four Japanese builders.
In 1988, Suzuki introduced a “SP” (Sports Production) variant which featured revised gearbox ratios as well as rebound adjustment and a remote reservoir for the rear shock.
This example is VIN: GK73A107765. The seller purchased the bike from a collector approximately two years ago and states, “I had originally bought these 3 special 400cc bikes out of a collection. That consisted of a Bimota YB7 400, a Yamaha FZR400RR SP and this Suzuki GSX-R400R SP. I had some fun and lovely rides on these bikes with my son. I always enjoyed how agile they were and that they were all 3 very limited numbers bikes. The Suzuki was always my favorite, as I had the 750 version too. I have sold 2 of the 3 and this is the last to go. This one will be surely missed.”
During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 1,000 kilometers (621 miles). The odometer shows 18,260 kilometers (11,346 miles).
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “The bike was just fully recommissioned at Auto Motorcycles specialists. This included a full service, carb service, and replaced all fluids.”
Modifications:
The seller notes, “The bike is stock standard, with the exception of a OVER RACING exhaust tail piece.”
It is riding on Metzeler Sportec M3 tires with date codes of 2811 and 4112.
