Description

Additional photos of this 1989 Suzuki GSX-R750 are available here for your perusal.

Suzuki pulled the cover off the first-year GSX-R750 at the 1984 Cologne Motor Show, before its official launch in March of 1985. Upon its release, the Gixxer was unquestionably king, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

Suzuki revamped just about everything for the 1988 debut of the second generation. The aerodynamics were improved (11% less drag), the wheelbase was shortest in class (140cm), and the alloy frame was stronger (60% more rigidity). There were several other upgrades (such as a new short-stroke 748cc engine), but one specific change would end up becoming a nickname for the entire generation – the “slingshot” Mikuni BST36SS carbs.

Basic specifications were 112 horsepower, 55 lb-ft of torque, and a dry weight of 430 pounds. New for ’88 were 17″ wheels, while braking duties were handled by 320mm dual hydraulic discs up front and a 220mm hydraulic disc in the rear.

Manufactured in September 1988, this example is VIN: JS1GR77A5K2100432, Engine #: R708-102792. The seller acquired the bike two years ago through an auction here at Iconic Motorbikes!

During his ownership, the seller has covered approximately 80 miles. The odometer shows 22,624 miles.

Maintenance:
