Developed as a response to an ever increasing number of Japanese 750cc racebikes the Kawasaki ZX-7R is a homologation special geared toward the new for 1988 World Superbike Championship. The ZX7R started life in 1989 proceeded by the GPX750R. Developed from the ZXR7 prototype endurance racer the ZX-7R would go on to win four AMA Superbike Championships, and a World Superbike CHampionship.

Powered by a liquid cooled 749cc inline four cylinder engine with two overhead cams and four valves per cylinder sporting aluminum heads, cylinders and engine case helping the R save weight. The bike was good for 121 ponies, and 54.3 pound feet of torque, mated to a six speed multi plate wet slipper clutch. The compression ratio for the M model from 1993 was rated at 11.5:1 mixing air and fuel through four 39mm Keihin CVKD carbs. Kawasaki claimed a top speed of 160 MPH.

Kawasaki updated their standard ZX-7 sportbike in 1993 with ram-air induction and the upgraded pistons and cams from the previous year’s “R” special. That gave the 1993 “R” a better platform to improve upon, adding trick components like an adjustable swingarm pivot.

Other notable upgrades that riders got to enjoy with the “R” included: Aluminum gas tank, solo tail, compression and rebound adjustability in the 41mm front forks, remote reservoir shock, 39mm Keihin FCR flat slide carbs, and a close-ratio transmission. Another change is the supplemental hole in the right side fairing – that’s to adjust the flatslides.

Manufactured in December 1992 this example is VIN: JKAZXDM1XPA000406. The seller purchased the bike from a previous Iconic auction in 2021. The bike had been previously restored. The restoration was said to include the engine, which got new bearings, rings, and seals at 14,315 miles as well as frame powdercoating and reproduction VIN and Kawasaki decal stickers.

The odometer shows 14,413 miles. The seller has covered approximately 48 miles during his four years of ownership.
