Retro-inspired modern classics seem to be all the rage right now, but a few companies were well-ahead of the game. One of the most notable efforts was the Kawasaki ZRX1200R – Cycle World called it “a replica of a replica“, as it was designed to make you think of the iconic 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica.
Expectedly, it came in Kawi Green. However, the ZRX was also available in silver, red, and blue.
The 1,164cc DOHC liquid-cooled engine produced 123 horsepower, good for a top speed of over 120 mph. It’s fun but also comfortable if you’re the kind of person that wants to ride for hours at a time.
This example is VIN: JKAZR9A192A018769. The owner purchased the bike from the original owner one year ago and states, “I rebuilt and restored a 1998 KX250. I have restored many dirtbikes over the years. I had a guy message me on Offerup and said he would trade me his sport bike for the dirt bike and I really like the ZRX. So we met up and rode each bike and agreed to trade. I gave him a clean title and he gave me a clean Hawaii title for this bike. I kept it and registered in and insured it in my name and got a new Nevada title for it. I have enjoyed having it and it’s a great bike but I got a bunch of kids and just don’t want to ride on the street anymore.”
During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 3,000 miles. The odometer shows 13,192 miles.
Maintenance:
The seller states, “I don’t have documentation for the maintenance that has been performed because I’ve done it myself. But I recently rebuilt all four carburators and put a new O-ring kit and gaskets on them. Cleaned all jets and floats and passages. I also put a new thermostat and brand new Honda Pro Aluminum blue coolant in the bike. I flushed the radiator and cooling system before putting new coolant in. I cleaned all the ground terminals across the bike. Unfortunately, due to living in Hawaii most of its life it does have some corrosion around the bike. Mostly on bolts around the frame. Some of the electronic connections had some corrosion but it was easily cleaned off with a brillow pad. Brand new spark plugs. Brand new oil and filter about 200 miles ago. I went through the top end (valve cover pulled, valve lash was checked and was in good range). There are EGR reed valves that live in the cylinder head cover that were full of carbon. I cleaned these completely out by sandblasting and then thoroughly cleaned and reassembled. The cylinder head valve cover was also painted flat black during this time. It still matches the rest of the motor. Can easily provide pictures of this. It has a brand new Everstart battery installed. It is jetted and tuned for sea level elevation. So here in Las Vegas (roughly 2,400 ft above sea level) it runs rich. So it does have decel popping coming down from high rpm. Doesn’t really effect the bikes performance as it still rips and runs beautifully, but it is a noticeable side effect from running on the rich side.”
Modifications:
Full Muzzy exhaust.
ELS performance aftermarket radiator, performance braided radiator coolant hoses, braided stainless steel brake lines.
Black cylinder head, K&N air filters, K&N crank case breather filter.
Aftermarket adjustable clutch and front brake levers, Meimoto bar-end mirrors.
It is riding on Michelin Pilot Power 2CT tires with date codes of 2712 and 4612.
