In the world of off-road racing, Malcolm Smith is a name that needs no introduction. After getting his feet wet in competition atop a Matchless 500, he quickly began racking up accolades.
Between 1966 and 1976, Smith won gold at the International Six Day Trial eight times. As if that wasn’t enough, he also won the Baja 1000 some six times, with three of those efforts coming on four wheels. Other notable appearances included the Paris Dakar Rally, the Atlas Rallye, as well as the Baja 500 and Mint 400.
As he proved his worth, Smith’s talents continued to earn him some time in the spotlight — most notably in the McQueen classic, On Any Sunday. Smith was then inducted into the Off-road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1978, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1996, and finally the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.
In celebration of Smith’s off-road successes, Malcolm Smith Racing released a limited run of 150 ISDT tribute helmets in his honor. Based on the Mav-2 MX, each one featured an exclusive livery, a numbered plaque, and — best of all — a hand-signing courtesy of Malcolm Smith himself.
The seller states that he acquired the helmet directly from Parts Unlimited.
The sale includes the original box and helmet bag.
