Additional photos of this Daryl Beattie helmet are available here for your perusal.

Daryl joined the 500cc GP Championship in 1992, spending two seasons with Rothmans Honda and then a season with Marlboro Yamaha. In 1995, he joined Lucky Strike Suzuki and won two races (the Japanese and German rounds) in his first season with the team, placing 2nd overall in the Championship that year. Things were looking quite promising.

Unfortunately, Daryl’s fortunes changed in 1996. From an interview on Crash.net: “I was on a roll looking to go better in ’96, but the new bike had piston troubles. I had two or three big head injuries in testing due to the top of the pistons being torn off. On a two-stoke it was just seizing and I had a couple of big concussions.” He returned for the fourth race of the season at Paul Ricard but had another serious accident, and he missed most of the season. “Eventually I had tests done in Australia and discovered I had middle ear damage, so my balance was off. I found that out a few years later. By then I’d decided I wasn’t competitive, then found the reason why.”

Nowadays Daryl commentates on MotoGP and F1 for Australian TV – he also runs the self-named Daryl Beattie Adventures in his home country, offering dual-sport tours of the Australian outback.

The sale includes a Shoei helmet bag.
