After Spanish manufacturer Montesa decided to withdraw from competition, Francesc “Paco” Bultó left the company (along with most of the racing department employees) and decided to start his own motorcycle company in 1958, with the brand an amalgamation of his own surname Bultó and his nickname Paco. Despite Bultaco’s primitive facilities — early models were built on one of Bultó’s family farms — the upstart manufacturer had a bike ready for the press by 1959. And here’s the thing: just two months later, they entered their first Spanish Grand Prix, sweeping seven of the first ten finishing positions in the 125cc class in the process.

With time, Bultaco became best known for its off-road competition bikes, such as the Sherpa T, the Matador, and the Pursang which was produced between ’67 and ’81. Originally offered in displacements ranging from 125cc to 350cc, the highest-spec Pursang grew to 370cc before the first closure of the factory in 1979.

This example is VIN: 10200305, Engine #: SM-10200305.

The seller has not ridden the bike during his ownership. There is no odometer, true mileage is unknown.

“I bought this bike from Action Cycles, Litchfield IL about 3 or 4 years ago. I purchased its sister bike, a 73 250cc Pursang, a year earlier from the same seller. They both had number 3H with AHRMA stickers, so I’m guessing they were vintage raced by the same rider. My 250 was great, so I came back for the 200. Funny though, I never did a darn thing with the 200. It just sat in the shop. I intended to go through it, make sure it was race ready, but I never did. It ran when I got it, but I haven’t run it since. To be fair, I haven’t run the 250 much either since then. They’re both red and silver, which is correct for 1973.”

Maintenance:
“Nothing. It is exactly as I bought it.”
Modifications:
“It’s got an aftermarket Mikuni carburetor, non-OEM fenders and different shocks for starters. I don’t know about the rest.”

It is riding on Michelin Cross Competition M12 tires that have aged out.
