In the late 70s, Honda offered both a CB750F and a CB900F, but the US only got the 750 and Europe only got the 900. Expectedly, neither market was particularly pleased with this decision — the grass is greener on the other side. It took a few years, but Honda eventually appeased the Americans by bringing the 900F over as well. In regards to styling, Hemmings had this to say about the 900F, “Style is a mix of traditional UJM with more modern touches like the beautifully designed upturned rear spoiler.”
The bike boasted some serious grunt for its time, with a respectable 89hp @ 9,000RPM. Not only that, but handling was more than competent, too — a feature made only better by the Comstar lightweight aluminum wheels and tubeless tires. The press loved it – Cycle magazine called it “one of the best performance buys on the market.”
This example is VIN: JH2SC010XCM102134. The seller bought it in 2020 “from a collector in Maryland who decided to downsize his collection as he entered his 70s. He had purchased the bike from the original owner’s family in an estate sale. The bike was was occasionally taken to vintage bike shows and Honda meet-ups. Otherwise, it was kept in the collector’s garage.”
During his ownership, the seller covered roughly 10,000 miles. The odometer shows 23,184 miles.
“This bike has been a dream machine for me. I have had a soft spot for this model, in this paint scheme, ever since I first saw one in a family friend’s garage when I was a child back in the early 80s. This bike has been babied and well cared for but has not been a garage queen. I have averaged about 2000 miles a year on it through the back byways of Northern Virginia since I’ve had it. I typically take a couple of 20-50 mile rides a week on this workhorse of a machine. Once I had the initial kinks worked out of it after initially purchasing it, this bike has been a dependable road partner for me. I introduced my young children to riding on this bike using a “buddy harness.” This bike has been a part of the family and will be sorely missed.”

The sale includes three keys (one original, two copies).
Cosmetic Blemishes:
“The bike has typical age wear throughout as would be expected with a bike this old that has been ridden and not kept as a collector’s item. The most significant blemishes are on the gas tank. There are a few paint scratches. The most significant ones were said to have from the first owner. Some were drop filled by the second owner. The tank also has a slight dent on the right side that can only be seen in the correct lighting. There is a scuff on the top of the right tail pipe that is also difficult to see unless you are in the correct lighting. The bike is in great presentable condition on the road and looks like it came through a time machine. This bike commands attention and draws comments wherever you take it.”
