Sold between in 2000 and 2006 in two different versions, the RC51 has gone down as one of the most legendary motorcycles to ever come out of Honda, well-deserving of the “RC” designation that’s graced other famous Hondas like the RC30, RC40, and RC45.
This was Honda’s take on the V-Twin replica racer, beating Ducati at it’s own game with multiple World Superbike Championships and a AMA Championship.
That’s also what makes this example (VIN: JH2SC453X1M100277) special – as the OEM Honda bodywork has been repainted in the livery Colin Edwards rode at the Laguna Seca round of the 2002 WSBK Championship (he won the overall championship that year). Please note that Colin’s RC51 was a SP2, while this is a SP1 and the paintwork reflects that. Speaking of Laguna Seca – Iconic is hosting a track day there in July. Will we see you there?
The seller of this example acquired it six months ago from a private party in Southern California who says that he was the second owner. He’s covered approximately 200 miles with it and is hoping to see “the bike go to someone who knows the history of the bike and what it means to the Honda brand.”
The odometer shows 37,990 miles, however true mileage is lower and unknown as this is equipped with a larger rear sprocket.
Modifications:
Akrapovic titanium exhaust.
Vortex gas cap.
Double bubble windscreen.
Stainless steel brake lines, larger rear sprocket, and swingarm spools.
Cosmetic Blemishes:
The seller notes “a few paint chips at the edges and bit of yellowing of the paint on the tank.” Photos of all known cosmetic blemishes are included in the album up top.
Inside of the Tank:
He adds that the sole mechanical issue is that the steering head bearings are notchy. Our White Glove service would be glad to replace them before the next owner picks it up or has it delivered.
The tire date codes are 1120 and 2820.
Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Honda is offered on a clean California title with registration current through October 2021. The registration sticker was stolen, however there is a paper registration card showing that it is valid until October 28th, 2021 in the tail.
The seller is letting it go as he is making room for a new race bike as he’s recently decided to exclusively ride on the track. Have any RC51 stories or questions about this listing? Let us know in the comments!
