Toni ElÃas first took to racing back in 2000 at the ripe age of 17 when he made a go for the 125cc World Championship. Just one year later, he finished the season in third, also securing his first win in the Dutch TT. His early promise allowed him to move up to the 250cc class for 2002, during which time he finished 4th. He bettered his performance a year later with 3rd before finishing fourth in 2004.
Come 2005, ElÃas got his MotoGP start with Fortuna Yamaha. For the next two years, he rode for Gresini Honda, taking his first GP podium in 2006 before breaking his leg at Assen in 2007. After spending some time in recovery, he was able to return for the 2008 season with Alice Ducati before moving back to Gresini Honda for 2009.
In 2010, Toni ElÃas moved down to the newly-created Moto2 class. While racing for Gresini Honda that year, he was able to take his Moriwaki bike to a Le Mans victory and take the World Championship title. He returned to MotoGP again in 2011 for Team LCR; after a lackluster season, he rode as a subsitute for Hector Barbera at Hector Ducati.
Finally, in 2016, ElÃas entered the MotoAmerica Superbike class as a rider for the Yoshimura Suzuki Factory team. He won the championship outright in 2017 — after an impressive 10 victories and 18 podium finishes. Though ElÃas announced retirement in 2020, he hasn’t been able to stay away from the track. In 2021, he competed for the Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha team. And, as of January 26, 2020, ElÃas announced that he would be riding for the Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team in the 2023 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.
These leathers are from the 2020 AMA season, Tony’s last appearance as a professional rider.
