The first generation of the Aprilia Tuono was a bit of a revelation – as Jerry Smith put it in a Motorcyclist magazine story, “Buried deep in the mission statement of every road-going sportbike is usually the requirement that some measure of civility be maintained so the bikes don’t scare off potential buyers like snarling dogs in an animal shelter. The design team at Aprilia that penned the specs for the Tuono missed that memo.”

Much of this was due to the engine – unlike most sportbike/standard pairings of the day, the Tuono’s V-twin mill wasn’t down on power from the engine found in the RSV Mille. Visor Down put it perfectly: “A Japanese naked bike is a bullock. It has the same structure as a bull, but its performance has been neutered and it now has weight issues. Aprilia’s Tuono is a bull, full of beefy testosterone (or the bovine equivalent), brimming with aggression and ready for a fight.” In other words, you got to enjoy all 139 horsepower. In addition, the comfortable seat and upright ergonomics afforded by the bars meant you could enjoy the Tuono for mile after mile without the usual pains that come from extended rides on sportbikes.

Manufactured in July of 2006, this example is VIN: ZD4RRTT087S000440. The seller acquired it six years ago from an employee at Yoshimura (a gentleman who has also sold a KTM 525 SMR and an Aprilia Tuono Racing and is currently selling a Suzuki GSX-R1000 through Iconic).

During his ownership, the seller has covered roughly 2,000 miles. The odometer shows 25,658 miles.

Modifications:
Yoshimura exhaust with K&N air filter.

RhinoMoto frame sliders.

Second set of aftermarket frame sliders (white).

Axle sliders.

The sale includes a complete second set of bodywork (including tank) in the 2009 White/Silver livery.

Cosmetic Blemishes:

Inside of the tank:

In addition to oil changes and tires, the seller has installed a new OEM fuel pump/filter, fuel tank seals, and spark plugs less than 100 miles ago. “As with all Tuonos and RSVs of the era, the rear brake needs consistent bleeding. Otherwise, it runs and rides awesome.”

It is riding on Pirelli Angel tires from 2017.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California (please make an appointment for an inspection), this Aprilia is offered on a clean California title with registration current through December 2022.
