The 1990s were defined by three sportbikes – the Honda CBR900RR, the Ducati 916, and the Yamaha R1. Honda’s CBR900RR started the revolution by being 76 pounds lighter than its lightest competition. Soon after, Ducati released the 916. It was technically competent with fuel injection and even an adjustable steering head angle, but it’s best remembered just for being one of the most beautiful motorcycles of all time. In 1998, Yamaha released the R1 and wiped the floor with everyone else – it was the lightest and most powerful literbike available and you had to work hard to find a dealer with one in stock. Over 20 years later they’re still fantastic machines, so here’s your chance to relive the glory days.

This R1 was featured on the cover of SuperStreet Bike Magazine in November 2012. It won 1st place at the International Motorcycle Show in San Mateo, California in December 2012 and was also shown at MotoGP Laguna Seca 2011-2012 two consecutive years in a row. It’s also won several awards as 1st place/best motorcycle at other motorcycle events.

The seller purchased the bike new in 2004 from Lemon Grove Motorcycles in San Diego, California.

Maintenance:
The seller states, “The bike has no mechanical issues and I’ve done all the maintenance myself. It’s never been down and the forks and race bodywork have a clear bra protective coating.”

Modifications:

The sale includes three keys, a Valter Moto rear stand, a set of OEM street fairings with headlights and taillight, as well as an OEM gas tank and an OEM exhaust unit.

Back in the early 1980s, the Japanese sportbike scene had become a sort of technological arms race. Between liquid cooling, improved suspension setups, and better-handling frames, the market was awash with options for the performance-hungry motorcyclist. Honda was quick on the draw with its Interceptor 750, and Kawasaki was close behind with the Ninja 900, prompting Yamaha to answer with a unique offering of its own.

The seller acquired the bike through Iconic Motorbikes approximately 2.5 years ago. During his ownership, the seller has covered limited miles. The odometer shows 45,559 miles.
.
Maintenance:
When the seller first purchased the bike in 2021, he had our service department replace the battery, the spark plugs, the oil and oil filter, the brake fluid, the coolant, and the brake pads. We also cleaned and synced the carbs and had the tank cleaned and touched up.
.

Iconic's 2nd auction closing on the site Tuesday: a VF1000R that’s been upgraded with the larger 6.2-gallon Euro tank! This iconic Honda's from 1985 and it's available for bid until 11AM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

When it was released, the VF1000R was a bit of a revelation: it was Honda’s flagship, designed to showcase what the Japanese firm was capable of. It was also a huge tease to US riders, because it was initially only released in Europe only – America got the VF1000F instead, which was designed to be more of a touring bike.
.
The R was Honda’s first road bike to benefit from gear-driven cams and came decked out in fully faired, racer replica bodywork with rearset footpegs and adjustable clip-on handlebars for a more racer-ready riding position.
.
The seller purchased the bike two years ago from Burn Up Company Vintage Motorcycles. During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 200 miles. The odometer shows 14,459 miles.

Maintenance:
The seller states, “I had the fluids flushed, the carburetors rebuilt, and a new battery installed within the last month for the bike to be sold. The tank has been sealed by Burn Up Company while they owned it”

Iconic’s first auction to wrap up on the site Tuesday is a Ted Gadecki original that portrays one of motorcycling’s greats: Valentino Rossi! This painting is available for bid until 10AM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Ted Gadecki is a Portland, Oregon-based artist who’s been creating a series of exotic motorcycle paintings, and several have been listed and sold on Iconic. Ted also offers Limited Edition prints of these paintings, which are produced at Pearl Printing in Portland, a shop that specializes in fine art prints. The prints are made with archival inks on heavyweight acid-free paper to ensure longevity. His paintings and Limited Edition prints have been displayed at galleries and motorcycle venues, including the ONE shows in Portland, Oregon and Mazda Raceway in Salinas, California. Ted has sold several Limited Edition prints to bike collectors and enthusiasts.

Today, Ted is offering an original painting portraying Valentino Rossi during his time with Movistar Yamaha.

The piece measures 43″x29″. It is acrylic painting on stretched linen.

We are all packed up and heading to the Austin airport for a 10pm flight.

I know I’m the kinda guy that wears his heart on his sleeve but I can’t help myself.
.
I’m so grateful for the many friends I made all over the world through iconic.
.
I’ve said it before…. when I left my Corporate job after 15 years, it was a tough decision. Leaving that salary, the Exec role I worked my life for…that was tough… But losing all my dear mates when I departed, that was a very unfortunate surprise that took me a couple years to get over.
.
And now….8 1/2 years after I left that life. I have EVERYTHING I ever dreamed of.
.
Love my many mates all over the world & I couldn’t be happier!
.
Thank you so very much for being a part of my life, thank you for supporting my lifelong dream and most of all…thank you for being my mates!

They won’t let us get too close to the track but the sounds are wonderful and I love seeing that American flag wave.

I may be an Aussie by birth but I came back to this country with NOTHING, not even a sweater or a jacket & non stop drive and never giving up…I’m living my best life now. Always thankful to be an American as well!

So thankful for this day, my mates, our supported and of course my amazing family here and back in AUS!

I just took my new track bike (the 848 Evo Corse) for its maiden session….went out for 5 laps and I LOVE IT!
.
Not so rocket fast that I’m hitting 140+ on the straights, light enough that even in the heat I’m feeling great and PLENTY of torque to pull you out of the tight corners.
.
As far as COTA…. So many corners! 20 total and that’s a lot! Figure our track (Laguna Seca) is 11 corners.
.
So happy with the bike. I’d like to put a quickshifter on it as the prior owner pulled it off for these rearsets but I do like those.
.
So much fun! Thank you Aprilia @aprilia_americas for this event. Thank you Alpinestars @alpinestarsus for the custom suit and keeping me safe! Love the boots too! And thank you Arai @araiamericas for the new helmet….it’s perfect!

For our last night in Austin Texas a bunch of us opted to hit Fogo De Chao @fogodechaobr and go see the bats on Congress Ave.

Sadly the bats didn’t come out but we did run into another Iconic fan and had an amazing dinner.

Austin sure is a special place. I can’t wait to do it again in 2025, 2026, 2027….and more!
