Closing 5th Tuesday: a quirky BMW scooter that was never officially sold in the U.S. and is sure to turn heads! This C1 200's from '01 and it's available for bid until 2PM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

At the turn of the century, BMW thought they could get more people on scooters by eliminating some of the weather and safety concerns. In turn, their idea was the C1, a scooter with a roof and seat belts. With sufficient crash testing, BMW was able to convince most countries (except Sweden and the United Kingdom) that C1 riders did not have to wear helmets. Though it had some potential, consumers did not fall in love with the C1, and it sold for just a couple of years.

Never officially offered in North America, the C1 was available with a 125cc or 200cc motor, it had plenty of luggage space, it was very comfortable, and it had lots of options – ABS, stereo, even a heated seat.

The seller purchased the scooter two and a half years ago and states, “My client, who happens to be a good friend, spent a lot of time in Vietnam and she was riding these (not this actual one) BMW scooters while there. She liked them so much when she came back to the states she located this unit on eBay in 2012. She purchased it with the hopes of riding it but ultimately never did. I also have another one that is just a parts machine that could go with sale if buyer wants it. It is a 2000 model year with the 125cc engine. I have owned them for just over 2 years and rode it once I feel this machine needs to go to someone that will enjoy it or knows more about them. Being super rare as they were never offered in the United States, I believe it could make a great addition to someone’s collection of rare or vintage bikes. It’s a real head turner and gets a lot of attention when people see it.”

Modifications:
“None that I aware of, appears to be in original condition.” The sale includes two keys.

Tuesday's 4th closing auction was inspired by Honda classics from the ’70s and ’80s; a special build that's absolutely dripping with Tyga Performance components! This RVF400 NC35's from '95 and it's available for bid until 1PM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

In 1994, Honda introduced the RVF400, or NC35. Successor to the VFR400 (not confusing at all), the NC35 was two things: a mini-me of the legendary RC45 and one of the greatest 400s ever built. Just like its 750cc big brother, the NC35’s fit and finish was top-notch, and the model had all the trappings of a full-size superbike in a potent 400cc package. Think about what a 400cc sportbike means nowadays – then look at what this offered over 20 years ago!

The seller purchased the bike one year ago from Tyga Performance and states, “Purchased from Tyga along with another RVF for project bikes, it had been stored for sometime after Tyga had finished the project, the BST wheels that were on it went to another project bike and I wanted to bring the bike back to life. It has an amazing paint job with a mix of new and old and lots of exposed carbon fiber. Its just have a very thorough going over and service, incredibly clean front to back, ready for a new home.”

Cycle World had this to say about Iconic's 3rd auctionset to wrap up Tuesday: “Using R1 power and an upright seating position, this literbike blew us away.” This FZ1's from '06 and it's available for bid with RESERVE MET until 12PM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

The Yamaha FZ1 is an under-appreciated bike. Introduced in 2001, it gave you the power of a modified R1 engine (145 hp) with all-day ergonomics. Low-end power suffered compared to the competition (Honda 919, Suzuki Bandit 1200, Triumph Speed Triple, Aprilia Tuono, etc), but it was silly amounts of fun over 8,000 rpm.

It’s a bike that makes a lot of sense, though it didn’t sell all that well in the U.S. Here in the States, this bike was only offered with a fairing, but in Europe you could buy the Yamaha FZ1N, a naked variant.

In the U.S., 2006 was the start of the second generation, which was completely revised with a new chassis, suspension, body work, and more. The engine produced 150 horsepower, good for a top speed of 160 miles per hour.

The seller purchased the bike 19 years ago from Yamaha Marina del Rey and states, “Always garaged and kept clean. Always fast and reliable and looks good.” The odometer shows 17,250 miles.

Maintenance:
Per the seller, “New battery was installed in January. A copy of the receipt is included. A Power Commander is included to improve the low-RPM throttle response.”

Finishing on our auction site 2nd Tuesday's a track version of the RC390R; and this one comes with the rare SSP300 Race Kit! This KTM's from '17 and it's available for bid until 11AM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

For 2017, KTM updated both the Duke 390 and its fully-faired sibling, the RC390. The RC was an instant hit when it was released, far surpassing the performance envelope that ~300cc bikes were offering. This also made it a popular platform for small displacement track builds.

The R model was a homologation special edition limited to 500 examples world wide. Along with a bevy of hardware upgrades, the track focused variant also included fully adjustable WP suspension front and rear, lowered clip-on handlebars, CNC milled brake and clutch levers, and fresh graphics.

The powerplant remained the same which produced 44 horsepower and 25.8 ft-lbs of torque. If that wasn’t enough, KTM offered the SSP300 Race Kit which was even more limited at 50 kits a year. The performance boosting packaged consisted up a full titanium Akrapovič exhaust, race ECU, quickshifter, STM slipper clutch, wiring harness, FEBUR cooling system, gearing options, and an extra set of wheels.

The seller purchased the bike one year ago from GP Motorcycles in San Diego, California. True mileage unknown. The seller reports three track days.

Toni Elias comes from a long line of racers. He is the third in his family to race and was crowned the Moto2 champion in 2010. He started racing the 125cc class in 2000 and in 2001 he took 3rd place overall. During that season he claimed his first race victory at the illustrious track at Assen during the Dutch TT.

Elias went on to the 250cc class the following year and finished in third and fourth for the next few seasons. By 2005 he secured a ride with Fortuna Yamaha and raced in MotoGP until 2010 when he moved back to Moto2 where he raced for various teams including Grisini Honda and Alice Ducati. In 2011 he moved back to GP racing for Team LCR on a Honda RC212V. Elias raced alongside the likes of Valentino Rossi, Kenny Roberts Jr, and Nicky Hayden.

This particular helmet is from Elias’ reigning championship year 2018 in Moto America and is signed by the man himself. The helmet design is a tribute to his father’s helmet designs back in the day when he was multi time Spanish Moto- x champion. It incorporates the retro style wording on the rear of the helmet.

Manufactured in March 2018 this helmet is aged out and is recommended for display purposes only. The helmet is size medium, 7 1/8 – 7 1/4 inches.

We stopped at Podium Club in Casa Grande on the way back home to see our client Doug and check out the track.

It was an open member day and someone brought out a car I have never seen before - a SSZ Stradale.

It’s one of 24 and they were all hand built by Tom Zatloukal of Aniwa, Wisconsin. They’re based on the Alfa Romeo Sprint Special and it was originally just supposed to be a one off but reception was so positive that Tom built more to order.

It weighs about 2,200 pounds and features a Chevy 5.7 LS motor! It was getting some shakedown runs before it races at Podium Club next week.

Olly and Ted’s first race from Sunday - Ted ended up in 4th place in Formula Thunder and Olly placed 3rd in Open Two Stroke.

Impressive on both counts - Ted is competing on a ‘05 R1 against much newer bikes with electronics like traction/wheelie control while Olly is racing a RS125 against several people with 250s!

Later in the day, Olly would also snag a 2nd place in Sound of Singles 3! I ended up winning Sound of Singles 1, getting second in Sound of Thunder 2, and placing third in BEARS.

A good weekend for us!

He did race his crazy Honda CX sidecar rig, and I had to get photos of both!

I have video of that Crighton shooting a flame out that’s no less than 2’ beyond the bike. It’s an insane rotary machine!
