This is a 1952 Honda Cub F and one of the earliest Hondas ever built!

By the time Fujisawa joined the Honda management team, Japan had already bade farewell to the days when dealers came with cash in their knapsacks and paid in advance.

A lot of motorcycle manufacturers had started up and it was now a buyers’ market. There were only about 300 dealerships in the whole of Japan and of these about twenty represented Honda but they were not, of course, exclusive Honda dealers.

As a late comer into the field Honda had to supply all its products on consignment and the payment terms had to favor the buyer. Up until that time, there had been an extreme imbalance between Honda’s production capacity and its sales capacity.

The Cub F-Type, “the red engine with the white tank”, was a hit creation that dominated its time. As a result of Fujisawas direct mail strategy, it was sold in about 15,000 bicycle shops, and was widely used throughout Japan.

Well…I’m sure glad it was a hit as Honda is and always will be one of my favorite motorbike brands.

Iconic's third auction going live today's a limite

Iconic's third auction going live today's a limited edition hog that comes outfitted in classic Harley black and orange and needs a rider for the open road! This Dyna Sturgis is #1260 of only 1,600, from 1991 and it's available for bid now on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

The Dyna chassis was introduced in 1991 as a replacement for FXR with the new frame denoted by a D for Dyna to replace the R for Rubber, hence FXDB. Kicking off this new model the boys from Milwaukee released the Sturgis, named after the infamous rally in the Black Hills of South Dakota and coinciding with it’s 50th anniversary.

HD planned to produce 1,600 bikes but actual production numbers range from 1,546 to 1,557. With less chrome than many previous models, it’s sleek looks were further showcased by a black-on-black styling and repositioned oil tank below the transmission eliminating external oil lines.

The heart of the Sturgis is a 1,340cc V-Twin and many Harley riders consider this 80ci Evolution powermill to be the most trouble free engine HD’s ever produced. Paired with a 5-speed gearbox, new engine mounting system, and upgraded suspension, the bike was praised for its surprisingly pleasant ride by Cycle World who called it, “one smooth motorcycle.” For more info, you can read about the development of the Sturgis and Cycle World’s first impressions from October 1990 here.

The seller purchased the bike from a private party in Big Bear, California 13 months ago. He is selling as he feels the bike is too heavy for him.

During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 300 miles. The odometer shows 10,418 miles. It is number 1,260 of 1,600.

Maintenance:
The seller reports no recent maintenance.

2nd to hit the Iconic site today: your chance to own a rare, CA plated, supermoto version of Yamaha’s one year only (in the US) dual sport two stroke! This WR200's from '92 and it's available for bid now on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Yamaha’s competitor to the very successful KDX200, the WR200 (WR stood for “Wide Ratio”) was only offered in the US for one year, though it was sold in other markets for longer.

Only Trail Bikes calls it a good bike that did not sell well, guessing that it didn’t make much sense when the YZ250 was already such a good trail bike as well. Still, pop a pipe on it and it “went from a nice likable little thumper humming about on the trails, to a blood thirsty, screaming two stroke with a case of roid’ rage induced roost throwing episodes.”

The seller states “My dad was a huge dirt bike and dual sport enthusiast. Of his collection of 11 bikes, 6 of them were dual sports and enduros (including street-plated Honda CR 250 and CR 500 super motos.) When he got the opportunity to pick up the WR 200, he couldn’t resist adding this one to his collection even if his days of riding trails in Mendocino were far behind him.”

Maintenance:

Honda had already established itself as a premier manufacturer of small bikes in the US by the mid-60s thanks to stellar reliability and ease of use – the “You meet the nicest people on a Honda” slogan didn’t hurt, either. But the biggest bike they made was the 450, and that wasn’t selling as well as Honda had hoped. Accordingly, a senior engineer named Yoshiro Harada toured the US in 1967 with the intent of getting dealers to shift more CB450s. However, he soon learned that American riders were clamoring for more displacement. So he went back home and the Japanese firm started working on “The king of motorcycles.” Considered by many to be the first “superbike”, it was an absolute game-changer of a motorcycle.

The seller purchased the bike three months ago and states, “This was an aspirational purchase. I had hoped that the sleek retro design would encourage my daughter to give riding a try. She appreciates the aesthetics but does not want to ride. Bummer. As an owner of way too many bikes, I am moving on and hoping it goes to someone who will appreciate and ride it.”

The owner of all the RG500 and RZ500 parts I mentioned last week has been busy boxing stuff up. (Mostly RG stuff).

It’s going to be a VERY FULL 40’ HC container of parts and it’s all coming to iconicmotomarket.com with an ETA of May or early June.

This parts lot is further justification on why we moved Iconic Moto Market to its new building.

We’ve already had about 6-7 emails requesting parts. We will fill those requests first but expect 1000’s upon 1000’s of hard to find parts hitting our site in Q2 2025.

It’s going to take some work to list them, we are working on streamlining the process as we speak.

I’m super excited about this division. Working on something else for iconic MotoMarket this weekend on the east coast.

CycleBoard is a California based company founded in 2015 specializing in the design and development of personal electric vehicles. The company offers three and four wheel scooters and bikes with a variety of accessories such as racks, cargo baskets, and trailers to transform the vehicles into functional, outdoor modes of transport.

The Rover is a 3 wheel electric scooter which uses lean-to-steer technology, instead of turning and twisting the handlebars, steering is handled by leaning and rocking the platform. Weighing approximately 80 pounds, the scooter is 44.5 inches high, 25 inches wide, and has a handlebar height of 42 inches.

Powered by a 60v, 1800w rear hub motor, CycleBoard claims 1,152 watt hours, a 27 m.p.h. top speed, and 40 miles of range. Other features include foldable handlebars, LCD screen, and five pre-set speed modes.

It is riding on 10 inch tires. The sale includes a charger.

What's wrapping up 5th for Iconic Thursday was never officially sold outside Japan; it's the rarely seen 250cc version of Suzuki’s iconic Katana! This GSX is from 1991 and it's available for bid until 2PM with NO RESERVE on iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

When Suzuki restarted Katana 1100 production in 1990 with limited runs of 200 units that year and the next, they also decided to create smaller versions for the JDM market in 250cc and 400cc forms. It was a gamble to release smaller displacement bikes with 10 year old styling but the response was fantastic, the 250 was the best selling bike in the market for four straight months.

Thanks to the iconic bodywork, the 250 looked impressively similar to its big brother. Some of the minor differences were the 250’s three-spoke Bandit mags, Kayaba suspension front and rear, and slightly modified radiator.

The 248cc liquid-cooled engine was well-disguised to look like it was air-cooled. Basically pulled from the GSX-R/Bandit 250, the whole package weighed 352 lbs and motor produced 39 horsepower at 13,500 rpm and 19.5 lb-ft of torque at 11,000 rpm.

The seller purchased the bike four years ago in Japan. True mileage unknown. The seller states, “This bike had a meter change due to broken needles, actual mileage is 57,107 km (35,484 miles).”

Back in '89, Peter Egan of Cycle World had this to say about Thursday's 4th auction to close: “It‘s the perfect sportbike for someone who wants to enjoy the sensations of a traditional road-going single without a heavy maintenance schedule or an advanced degree in machine shop.” It's the GB500 and it's available for bid until 1PM PST with NO RESERVE on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Honda’s GB500 was an homage to classic British singles but there was a twist – it was reliable! The average American rider shopping for a Japanese bike at the time was more interested in the bigger supersport replicas, but the Tourist Trophy has become a cult classic.

The GB (Great British) was offered with a 400cc engine in Japan and a 500cc motor in the US. The 498cc air-cooled single produced 33 horsepower at the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and a wet clutch. A stellar example of “more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow”, the GB was easy to ride and one of the most stylish machines that Honda has ever built.

He concludes it by saying “Simplicity and grace are never out of style, and the GB is a simple, handsome bike. It’s not a Velocette Venom Clubman, but I don’t care. We already have Venom Clubmen if we want them. This is a new motorcycle that looks good and is fun to ride, and there are never enough of those.”

The seller purchased the bike from a Japan auction approximately three months ago. The odometer shows 13,536 KM which is 8,411 miles. The seller has covered approximately 5 miles during ownership.
